I didnt realise that any of the LATAM countries fought in any of the World Wars.

But I came across this article by a Brtish journalist based in Sao Paolo - interesting read.

There were significant naval battles between Britain and Germany at Coronel, Chile (where Graf Spee beat the Brits) and the Falklands (where the Brits got their revenge on Spee).

And may I add the famous Battle of the River Plate (1940, I think) in which a trio of British
warships cornered the commerce raider Graf Spee off the Uruguayan coast.
It was eventually scuttled by the Germans, and then its captain was forced by Hitler to commit suicide in Buenos Aires.

That, however, was WWII (in which Brazil also participated, but Argentina was "neutral").

In both cases (WWI and WWII) the main catalyst of Brazil entering the conflict was German subs attacking Brazilian shipping. In the case of WWII in particular, many U-boats raiding Brazilian shipping in the South Atlantic would replenish and refuel on "neutral" Argentina.
