Lengthy Covid lay-off ban backfires, postponing job crisis

“You’re going to have a lot of formal employment destroyed next year,”
Could not agree more. Post pandemic a lot of businesses will need to re-scale in order to survive or meet debt obligations incurred.
With ATP on critical sectors coming to and end in December, many more are about to feel the punch.

As a business owner, a formal employee in this country has become a liability like an Argentine peso. Once you have them you can’t do much with them, and once you have them you never know what the government are going to do with them. Meaning it’s better to avoid hiring and make your business more automated and efficient to keep this liability as low as possible. Meanwhile if an opportunity arises to downsize without bankrupting yourself, you would be mad not to take it.

There is zero incentive for businesses to create employment in this country. With this “us versus them” vitriol celebrated by key sectors of society here, it’s something most potential workers will never understand as voters and thus they will never fix.
