Still looking for Skype replacement. Google does not work with 800 numbers. What about Tello?

From what I hear Tello is a good one, but you need an esim compatible phone. As I don't have one I signed up with Phone2. A bit quirky but getting the basics done and provides a USA number.

Tello has worked for me for calling landlines and 800 numbers and receiving bank texts so far. Not sure it will continue, but I've had it over a month and it's functioned. While in Argentina, I have to be connected to wi-fi to call/get calls. When I visit the states it will work on the normal networks there. I believe you can sign up, try it a month and see how you like it and just cancel if it's not functioning for you. I can only give my experience thus far. I have an esim and I ported my Skype line to it, but you can sign up for a brand new number from them. They have several plans to choose from but you can read more on reddit forums about it and get more perspective. I was running out of time to find an option and they had the best experiences related by users so I tried it out. Mine is $8/month.

I use it for messages only with a U.S. number....not for calls....yet. I really like Tello.

Google Voice works without any issue calling and receiving to/from US 800 numbers. Is that what your comment is addressing?
