back in london, i was used to riding my bicycle to some pub/bar or other and watching decent bands (for little money) 3 or 4 nights a week.

does anyone know of any venues or promoters that run regular nights of the rock/indie/alternative ilk? don't care if i've never heard of the bands before, in fact i'd probably prefer it (as long as they're vaguely competent).

i know there's occasionally a decent UK/US band coming through and playing somewhere a bit bigger (i know the rapture played here in january, for example) but i was wondering if there's a burgeoning local scene?

and of course, if anyone does know of anywhere, and is into such bands as (just a few at random) foals, LCD soundsystem, death cab for cutie, radiohead then get in touch and let's go to some gigs!

cheers,
jamie

There are lots, it's just not so easy to find them.

I go fairly often to Thelonious and I love it, but it's mostly jazz. Get there early to find a seat. I've been to Boris and it's nice but the night I went we didn't check who was playing and the band was pretty awful... kind of ruined it for us. Notorious is cool also, and famous, but I much prefer Thelonious becuase it's more casual... People sit down to full (expensive) meals at Notorious, but they also have much more notable bands. You can check out the listings online.

There's a really cool bar on Niceto Vega around Fitz Roy I think that has a stage on a makeshift 2nd level, but I can't remember the name. I've only been once but it was really cool and I've wanted to go back, does anyone know which one I'm talking about? It's got a large downstairs and the everyone watches the band from down below...I think it might even have a woman's name. The music when I went was funk, this young guy rapped a bit even, and it was good.

There's also a large but intimate venue in San Telmo, or at least that's what I'm told because I've never been but I want to. It's an old warehouse or something, and they get a lot of famous people as well as many nights with unknown bands... anyone know which one I am talking about? The name is escaping me...

As I said, there are tons, but you really have to work to find them, and as soon as you do write down the name and address because you might not find them again!

Hi,
I just got here 3 months ago and I two small kids, so it has been hard for me to wonder around the bar and music scene here in Buenos Aires. That means I have not gone out to a club or bar... but I can share with you me research and see if this helps you out.

You can start listening to the bands in these sites and see on their pages where will they play next. That was my plan any way.
I hope this helps.
