Looking for a house maid

We are a couple with two six year old kids who go to school here. We live in a two bedroom apartment in Belgrano a couple of blocks from Cabildo and Jose Hernandez subway station. We are looking for a maid who can come by every weekday for a few ours to clean and get groceries.

Any ideas how we should go about finding the maid and roughly how much should we expect to pay?

From what I understand, the going hourly rate is 20 pesos. Finding a maid is difficult but I suggest you may want to start with asking your neighbors and/or the portero of your building. Just be cautious with your valuables/cash. Too many tales recently of maids stealing. The ones who are thieves are very clever and know where to look for hiding places. So again, be very cautious. Also keeping the relationship very formal and not being overly generous is often the best approach. Don't over-pay, don't tip and don't give them clothing, toys, etc. At least not at first...let them prove themselves. Good luck!
