I went to Correo Argentino today to participate in the old-fashioned tradition of mailing a letter and was told that they are not accepting any pieces of mail to the US - letters or packages. If I understood the gist correctly, Correo Argentino is not currently approved to send items to the US, which I assume is related to the new tariffs (see, for example, this article that includes a similar story). They made it sound like a temporary situation, but in the meantime I thought I'd let people know and would be curious if anyone else runs into the same situation. I'll post an update if I manage to mail it later.

this is happening all over the world.
DHL, which is the German Post Office, is just not shipping to the USA at all.
Partly, sure, its a political message, but its also a response to unreasonable and unpredictable tariffs.
I am in the USA right now, and just got a shipment of weird unavailable door hardware to fix my door from Germany right before the cutoff in DHL.
I usually use DHL from Argentina to USA for important documents- guess its gonna have to be FedEx from now on.

Clearly, you'll have to go back to older-fashioned methods of mailing your letter. I hear the Titanic II is setting sail in 2027. I'm sure there's room for your letter in their burlap mail sack as long as your wax family seal is still intact on the envelope.

So what to do for those of us who need to mail the "proof of life" form from Social Security? The tariff situation supposedly applied to packages only, not letters. This is simply absurd.

First of all, relax. The SSA will not susepend your monthly benefits because they haven't recieved the form which is "due" in 2025 until after the January 2026 payment has been made. On January 4 of this year, the same day that the January payment was credited to my US bank account, I discovered (in "My Social Security" account online) that the form I mailed in 2024 had not been recieved.

I then completed a blank photocopy of the form I had made in case that the original form was never recieved. I had it scanned at a local kiosk and sent it by WhatsApp to my sister-in-law in the USA. She printed it and sent it to the SSA address in Baltimore. I never missed a single payment.

Just want to add that, on January 4th of this year, I discovered that my monthly benefits had actually been.suspended. With the help of my sister-in-law, the form was recieved by the SSA well before the end of January, the monthly benefits were reinstated, and the February benefit was credited to my US bank account on the third.

At that point I should probably just send a telegram... oh wait, that's actually an option through Correo Argentino!

The Argentine Pres is angry with the Pres of the USA and not allowing mail?

Many thanks, Steve. I received the form about 2 weeks ago, but am waiting for my partner's form to arrive. That said, he's travelling to NY next Tuesday so I was thinking of having him mail my form from there. About his unreceived form, what if I downloaded and printed the blank form, he fills it out, then he mails this also to Wilkes Barre, PA, while in NY? Also, what return address did your sister use when mailing your form? I know, this latter question sounds weird, but not sure if I should our address here or our NY address when mailing the forms.
