A major blackout/Apagon paralyzed Spain today at 12.35 Spanish time- for the last seven hours- . No full recovery on sight .. No trains, subways, traffic lights not working, no cell service and Internet communications, no ATM or CC transactions. Chaos on suways, freeways , schools and hospitals. May take a few days to restore services. People buying candles and portable radios. No supermarkets. No data on how military and defense systems were affected.

No hypothesis being discarded. Maybe it's a technical failure , Interesting to witness what a cyberattack could produce.

A national emergency has been declared a few minutes ago. For 4 Comunidades Autonomas.

The entire railroad grid has no power. Long distance speed trains are detained in the in the middle of the countryside . Hundreds of passengers stranded for more than 12 hours..!

People caught on trains with windows that don't open and no AC. Even worse on the subway. Imagine elevators stopped. What a nightmare

And this morning, (afternoon in Europe by now), the Spanish gov't are saying they still don't know what caused it.

Oddly enough, yesterday some Portuguese sources were saying that an "atmospheric disturbance" over Spain caused the outage.
