March against Communism

The example of becoming a farmer in texas is just one of the endless opportunities that American doctors have. I would also expect most people to agree with me when I say that Cuban doctors, or Cubans in general, enjoy far less opportunities and have much more restricted choices with what they do with their lives.

elgordito, you are absolutely correct that, "Cubans in general, enjoy far less opportunities and have much more restricted choices with what they do with their lives".

But the main reason for this is the harsh embargo enforced upon Cuba for the last 60 years by the government of the USA. And, with respect, I challenge you or anyone to explain why that embargo is still necessary in the year 2020, given that Communism is no longer a threat, (if it ever really was). If the USA had non-hostile relations with Cuba, we could trade with them and make money for both nations.

Cuba is a threat to many countries in the region, but not because of communism. Just ask the tens of thousands of Venezuelan political prisoners in SEBIN run torture camps with torturers and intelligence spies trained by Cuban "experts".
Cuba today is a threat to human rights and freedom of political expression. It is a destabilising force.
Why do they do it? Ask the Castro family or Maduro family... they seem pretty rich while their populations starve and / or live in misery with no rights to political opinions or expression. Model societies.

This story made me laugh out loud. Communism in Argentina has never been weaker than it is today. The entire Socialist Front, the FIT and all their mangy little stray dog allies, regularly poll about 4% of the popular vote. How can any person in their right mind possibly be threatened by a movement that pulls 4% of the popular vote? This is not a threat, it's a joke. I see them demonstrating in front of the government office at Arenales and Esmeralda, with their big red banners and their pictures of Che, and they never have more than 50 people, usually more like 3 dozen.

But, oh! The Macristas are so desperate to make themselves relevant again, so desperate to sidetrack Alberto's agenda, that they have exhumed the rotting corpse of Joe McCarthy and frantically tried to whip up outrage where none exists.

Calling Cuban doctors "slave labor" is about as pathetic as it gets. In truth, the Cuban government puts people through medical school in exchange for 3 years of service to the state after they become doctors. Compare this to the $200,000 in student loan debt suffered by many new doctors when they graduate in the USA, and ask yourself, which is more like a slave? Will those young US doctors be able to pay off their huge student loans in three years?

Yes, I know, many of you here on these forums are political conservatives, and many of you, uhhh, do not love Peronism. But can you seriously say that you think Communism is a menace in Argentina today?

This thread is strange.

First, does anyone NOT understand why they explicitly chose the word "comunismo"... even if they aren't literally marching against the actual communist party? It doesn't take an expert in political strategy to figure it out.

Second, I'm also not sure what an American med student racking up $200k in debt has to do with Cuban doctors in Argentina. Are American doctors protesting in front of Congreso? Did the American Medical Association merge with Cambiemos? Or is this just another thread that's doomed to morph into an "Y vos???" style USA vs. Argentina debate?

Also,
What is a salary of a cashier in an Argentinean grocery store?
How much U.S. soldiers sent to Korea in the 50ies were paid?
How much does a pro bono attorney earn?

Why would you judge another person's will or intent based on a salary level?

the person is not the problem, it's the people who control them. but you know this already.

Sorry Lunar but who judged another person's "will or intent"? I asked what the salary is because someone else there quoted US doctor salaries to explain that they can easily repay their medical school fees. Seems to me that your comment is an unfair judgment of MY will and intent.

Cuba trades with Canada and Europe and probably countries in Latin America. Why should they be dependent on the United States? How can they retain their socialist sovereignty if they must negotiate trade deals with the US? It makes no sense. They should stand on their own feet and not became trade vassals of the US!

They're calling it Communism because the oligarquia are wetting their pants at the thought of this special tax Alberto is going to make them pay, God forbid they should have to actually give back some of what they spent the last 4 years looting, pillaging, and embezzling from the public treasury, to the tune of 43 Billion USD+.

The organizers of the march were calling the presence of Cuban doctors "slave labor", and I was pointing out that Cuban doctors actually get a much better deal on their education compared to their US counterparts, in that they are debt-free in three years.

Or is this just another thread that's doomed to morph into an "Y vos???" style USA vs. Argentina debate?
That was certainly not my intention, but you know these forums well enough to know that is always a possibility. One could author a post about the relative benefits of the caniche versus the french bulldog and have it turn out that way. Somebody would jump in to call the French "cheese-eating surrender monkeys", and we'd be off to the races.
