I've been informed by a helpful member (not sure if I can mention them here, but they'll recognise themselves) that people in Argentina mostly communicate on Whatsapp. Coming from Europe, I'm not really used to that.

What are the main messengers and social media used in Argentina, or at least useful to have to contact administrations/shops/people?

Is Telegram used at all? iMessage? Instagram?

What should I get for better convenience in the country?
 
You need WhatsApp, si o si here.

Main social media is Instagram I'd say, especially amongst younger people under 40, along with TikTok. Telegram is basically crypto scams, pedophiles, and porn, (so the same as in Europe I assume). iMessage isn't super popular due to the low proliferation of Apple devices here due to how expensive they are, but some people use it.

And as said previously, WhatsApp is the go to for everything from administration to shopping to people.
 
Thanks a lot. Telegram is used in Europe for about everything. Keeping in touch with people, news, selling/buying second hand stuff, find a place to rent... Whatsapp is more for older people (used to be popular like 10 years ago as I know).


What about Twitter? I know it's popular in neighbouring Brazil...

Twitter here is a lot less popular than in Brazil, it's mostly politicians, especially Milei's party, and some companies. Maybe other people have different experiences, but I know it's much bigger in Brazil and the US compared to here.
 
There is an obsesion to send everything via whatsapp, a thing I am resisting so I try to limit very much the people I give my cell phone number and many times I force them to call my land line or send emails while not providing the cell phone number to everyone, like doctor's offices who like to send me dissapearing whatsapp messages as remainders.
 
People book flights here on Whatsapp, doctors appointments etc. It's the equivalent of email in other countries. Other than that, Facebook marketplace to buy/sell used items.

That sounds crazy. How do you even book a flight on Whatsapp? Doesn't make any sense to me...
Is Facebook marketplace more popular than MercadoLibre?

WhatsApp voice messages for everything so you can forget WTF they told you and have to listen to the whole thing again.

A hangover from when everyone used to speak over nextel? 😀
