Messi, Milei and Mickey Mouse are driving Argentina's tourists to United States

Rich Argentines taking holidays in Florida isn't exactly a new phenomenon.
The posted story is not reporting that is a new phenomenon. It is reporting that people from every country in the world have visited the USA much less than past years. Compared to people from Argentina who have visited much more than past years.

The number of Argentines travelling abroad overall is up by nearly 60 percent this year to almost 11 million, equal to about a quarter of the nation’s population.

I'm always astonished by the Argentine fascination with Disneyworld. It's $119/day now, so families with a few kids are paying a month's salary for a day's entry, and that doesn't include thousands more for airplane, hotel, food, etc.

We went once when I was a kid (working class family), driving down and staying with Florida relatives. It was great, but not like, 10x better than local amusement parks. I wonder how many Argentines are disappointed after such a huge outlay of cash?

I am amazed by Argentine fascination with Miami. Yesterday I was filling the tank at a YPF gas station and started chatting with the attendant. I told him that I used to live in New Jersey and the only thing he asked me was how far it is from Miami!

Based on people I know who seem to visit multiple times in a year, maybe it's not 11 million visitors but one million each visiting eleven times.

There are a lot of Argentines who live in Miami. It wouldn't surprise me if every Argentine either knows or is related to an Argentine in Miami so they have a natural interest in finding out these things.

Isn't it all about identifying with a brand, these days? You wear Nike; you drive a BMW; you visit Disneyworld. Never mind the leggings chafe or the car is always breaking down or the rides aren't that good - it's your brand and you stand by it.

Is it also a female thing? I have heard many people both here and in Peru long for a trip to Disney, or tell me that they achieved their dream of going there. As far as I can recall, all women.

I'm a female and i don't get it. Maybe it's more glorious now than forty years ago, but my lasting memory is hiking across a random lawn between monorail tracks to see the animal shaped topiaries up close. They were plastic. More impressive was the fact they hired workers to pretend to trim them.. 😆
That will always be my Disney memory. Disillusionment
