The empanadas were from Mi Gusto, I see 12 empanadas listed on their website for 41000 Pesos, sauces extra. Probably 48000 or more once they've been delivered by Rappi or whoever.

Mi Gusto are making the most of the free publicity, claiming to sell an experience rather than mere empanadas. They rushed out an ad with a typical customer ("ponele", as they say here) buying her empanadas and eating them in her Porsche.

I suppose they're a bit upmarket, but not tremendously so. It's the same chain that keeps its employees working "en negro".

The reaction of the government yob was telling.

I don't know what all the drama is about honestly...I went to my local Coto mall here in Neuquen and ordered a half-dozen empanadas for $19,000. That comes out to $38,000 the dozen. Adding fees for delivery and whatnot could easily come out to Darin's price and we're talking mall food court here not some fancy gastro joint. Half a dozen from Pranzo last I checked was over $14,000. It was the only take out I would occasionally order and even that I feel is now overpriced.

It's a sad day in this country when even a fast food staple like empanadas is out of reach for many. The government should stop bothering to defend itself. Purchasing power for everyone has dropped sharply in all measures. Full stop.

It says a lot about things how much the government went into overdrive to counteract this and try to discredit Darin.

What kind of empanadas are these ? The place at the corner of Lavalle and Florida with the old Italian owner they are 1100 pesos each delicious and filling, the best in the centre. Maybe their ultra touristic location makes them unsuitable for movie stars and expats

Mi Gusto has something like 12 locations scattered around Buenos Aires, and, while I don’t live in CABA anymore, I remember their place in Colegiales being packed, the delivery people interfering with traffic.

You’re being a bit silly if you imagine their empanadas are for movie stars and expats. 🙄

I was just flabbergasted at his use of the phrase "movie stars and expats". That's like saying "Ferraris and cabbages". Who does this guy think we are?

It’s just some guy with an agenda who joined the forum today. Quite possibly not even in Argentina and using Google Maps to find empanada outlets 🤣. Things like that have happened before.

Get popcorn 🍿

I've been buying empanadas for years from Alameda and the cost historically has been around 1 blue dollar each for a dozen. They're now $24,600 for 12 and I refuse to pay that because that's too expensive/gouging in my opinion.

The way the La Fuerzas del Cringe have responded, as if Darin is making this up, is just further proof as to how out of touch they themselves are. However, we shouldn't complain too much, we'll be put on SIDE's watchlist for questioning Dear Leader's economic "miracle" and causing distrust in the plan.

Regarding Mi Gusto, my friends all say they're delicious. We've finally decided to leave Argentina soon and we'll be splitting some with friends to share the cost as a parting meal before we go we decided.
