Hi All,

My best friend and I want to do a nature retreat around Christmas time for a few days to recharge and muse about life. What would be an affordable place or area, say, within 2 hours of BsAs?

We're looking for something reasonably comfortable (i.e. no camping), but also pretty quiet. Something that's not totally isolated, but not overrun with people, and of course beautiful. We'd like to do hikes, or maybe ride a bike around if we can find one to rent. Also, my buddy is yogi/vegetarian, so anything with at least one reasonable veggie place is a big plus (I know that's asking a lot ;)). A hot tub would be nice too, but secondary to the rest.

Thanks!
Dima

For Christmas? Tough finding a place less than 2 hours away that is not going to be teaming with people from BsAs. If you are willing to go further I would recomend a non-popular coastal town. If you have some money you could do a higher cost estancia retreat. Unfortunately for you, you are planning in the temporada alta.

I really have liked Chascomus. I lived there for 6 months. Nice lagoon with some fairly decent restaurants around. You'll want to call in advance for reservations at a hotel though, if you are going on a weekend. There is a train that leaves Constitución for Mar del Plata that stops in Chascomus. That makes for a pleasant trip seeing the country side. Schedules and prices can be found here: http://xcolectivo.com.ar/tren/

Call to verify.

¡Feliz Navidad!

I would suggest staying in a cabaña near Tigre. The islands are very relaxing and you're just a short boat trip away from civilization. Some of the places are pretty nice.

Peru Beach is not a nature retreat! Swarming with people, in the summer it's like an open air club!

Try the delta for within 2 hrs:

Not sure what your budget is

If you can go farther afield, I'd go to Esteros del Ibera, though it requires a bit of planning.

I used to have a page marked for a lodge in tigre that did kayaking, biking, and bird-watching but I cannot find it -- perhaps someone else might know the place I am thinking of, or can recommend somewhere else.

Thanks to everyone! I didn't think ahead that x-mas will be a peak weekend - so be it.

I will check out your suggestions.

All the best,
Dima
