I'd appreciate a referral for a tax lawyer or other professional to help us purchase a new house.
We'd like to move to a new house and our first challenge is to figure out how to bring in the funds without triggering a hassle regarding wealth taxes etc, how to title the property given our immigration status, to understand how we'd return the funds to the U.S. whenever we sell the new house, and possibly how to structure a bridge loan.

You will need the services of the escribano of your choice regarding the title and the closing, regardless of your immigration status.

An Argentine accountant, suggested by or already working with the escribano should be able to answer your questions about the wealth tax (bienes personales) and if you are subject to paying them.

There are several threads in the forum about bringing funds the into the country that can be accessed by using key words in a search. Recently there was a thread about mortgage loans. Based on comments in that thread, it appears that real estate loans require Argentine sourced income and I think permanent residency may also be a requisite.

PS: mortgage rates are about 12% above the rate of inflation (so over 30% in total), and the interest rates on other/personal loans appear to be at least twice that amount.

I would agree- start with an escribano. The percentage of the purchase price you pay them is well worth it, and they know how things are working right now.
