NEED HELP from expats that have or know expats with kids

That's a good point Steve!!

I will keep it in mind when I will talk to the director of the private school during the day.

Roxana - We anticipate arriving July/August (probably August). My husband actually emailed with the school about general issues, but I'm wondering if they would be more open about what documents are REALLY needed on the phone than by email. So, thanks again for making a call.

This is the 3rd year my Spain-born children will go to school here with no DNI - i just gave the school a photocopy of their passports. No problem whatsoever.

That is really encouraging to hear - thanks!

My kids, 15, 10 and 5 attend Hans Christian Anderson in Belgrano. We've been very happy with the standard of education and the price per month comes in at around 1500 pesos per child per month plus materials and uniforms. I can inquire about the documentation needed to enrol but I think they're more flexible than publicly funded schools.

Hi,
Thanks for the information. I'd love to hear more about the school - the location is good for us, and a recommendation from a parent is always great! One issue we've run into is the hours at the one school we've looked into closely (and really like, from what we know) - for my 6 year old, it would be 8:15-5 (seems really long), but only half day for my 4 year old. Ideally, we would love a slightly shorter day, but both kids on the same schedule (my shy six year old will do much better if she knows her sister is somewhere in the building!). Certainly, schedule isn't the only thing we care about, but it would make a big difference in getting us to consider moving away from what seems to be a great option with a bad schedule.

I would have PM'd you, but you don't seem to have personal messaging enabled!

Thanks so much.

The hours are 8am yo 4:45 pm..1hr 30min for lunch from 12:15. Our kids come home for lunch as most students at the school do. This arrangement saves us paying extra for lunch and we get to eat as a family.

Parent teacher communication is quite strong and by Argentine standards they make strong use of technology as a communication tool.

That's great information - thanks! I didn't realize about kids coming home for lunch. I wonder if that's common with schools in general... So different than what we're used to!

Do you know at what age kids start going full-time? I'm wondering if my four year old would be able to attend the same hours as her older sister (which would make them both very happy!). We may also contact the school to ask, but I thought maybe you would know!

Thanks.

My youngest started kindi at 3 and went for half a day, morning until after lunch. This year she began preschool at the age of 5, still half a day. Next year she'll begin grade 1.

One big difference between this school and Australian schools is the level of security. They're very vigilant.

From my own research and experience the private schools have half day for 4yr olds - they only start full-day at preschool (which is compulsory) and starts at 5....it can depends on when her birthday falls however. Lunch has 3 options
1. vianda - they take their own lunch and the school heats it and serves it to them..great service and 1/3 of full school lunch cost
2. school lunches - they have great healthy menus but expect to be paying 300 pesos + per month for this
3. go home to eat

FYI the jardines maternales do offer full days for 4 yr olds and are much more flexible on starting and leaving hours so you may want to enroll your oldest at school and then pick a jardin maternal to fit in the schedule...and there loads of those all over every neighbourhood and good too.

Thanks - this is very helpful! I was wondering if there were options more like what we consider "daycare" for my younger daughter. She will turn 5 in May of the year we are there - does anyone know if a jardin maternales will still take her at that age? Katy
