Hey everyone!

I’m Mauricio from Argentina. I lived in Europe for almost ten years and recently moved back to Buenos Aires for work. I’m currently planning my partner’s move from abroad.

She’s Polish and currently living in the UK. The plan is for her to arrive around October, register a unión convivencial here in Buenos Aires shortly after arrival, and then apply for temporary residency under family reunification.

A few specific questions:
  1. Has anyone gone through the residency process via unión convivencial (rather than marriage)?
How was your experience? Any tips or things to watch out for?
  2. Did you use an immigration lawyer?
Was it worth it, or is the process manageable on your own?
  3. Documents:
We’re planning to bring her marriage certificate with divorce annotation, criminal background checks from both Poland and the UK, and possibly her birth certificate, all apostilled and translated in Argentina.
Does that sound about right, or are we missing anything?
  4. Bonus:
Does anyone here know Polish expats in Buenos Aires?
Also, any recommendations for certified public translators (Polish/English → Spanish) would be super helpful!
Thanks in advance!

I got my permanent residency through a Union Civil in 2022. It was surprisingly easy. I had a lawyer to get my student Visa and I was going to use them again for this process but my partner insisted we could do it alone. We did and it was not that difficult. I think things have changed since 2022 but honestly, it sounds like you are getting all the correct paperwork together. I feel like i needed a proof of "domicilio" here in BA but that was very easy to get, you just go to the police station. You will also need a criminal record check here in BA too. When getting the civil union license of whatever it was called, we needed two witnesses and again, proof of domicilio. I am in Vincete Lopez and not the directly in Capital Federal so I can't speak to how the people are there but it was probably one of my more pleasant experiences here.
