New Online Purchasing Laws

BajoCero, you're way off the mark here, way off!
In an effort to distract us all with income taxes, corrupt US politicians, protecting the Chinese workforce, fake invoices, contraband and other malarky, you have completely missed the point.
Most consumers buy totally innocuous products online as is their free and democratic right in any civilised country. Some consumers even buy those widgets and sell them on at a profit.
Shock horror! I hear you say.People buying stuff then selling it?? Whatever is the world coming to?
I like to think that I see the BIG PICTURE here BajoCero. The mechanics and modus operandi of these so called laws are the nuts and bolts.
The BIG PICTURE here is freedom of the individual, which under this regime and its onerous, draconian taxes and bureaucracy, is being eroded as every month passes.
If I were a Freudian analyst, I would ask why you so casually threw North Korea into this discussion and I would rest assured that I knew the answer already.

I like it how in Argentina this is par for the course... but when applied to elsewhere, having to file an IRS form just to purchase something from overseas sounds insane. Yes, people should pay their taxes and have to prove source of income when there's a discrepancy, but this just seems like an annoyance than a real solution.

In any case, it won't work. The country is still bleeding dollars and will continue to do so - another band-aid for a gunshot.

Imagine having to ask the IRS for permission to travel overseas.

I have no idea what an US politician makes, not here to attack or defend them. But if you wanna know as a class, I despise them.
You made all a context about my post that you couldn't be more wrong. Except for the part that I don't have much respect for law enforcers who don't follow the law that they create, as this gov't in general.

The base salary for a US Senator or Congressman is $174,000. Those in leadership roles earn slightly more.

As far as I understood there were no import duties on books. The example I used was not talking about electronics, just books in foreign languages that are not available in this country in the first place (and this goes beyond books for kids and into research books which a lot of academics here require). I have my DNI and my status in order, I make maybe 200 USD a year in purchases via Amazon -- if I were carrying 200 bucks of books in via Ezeiza they wouldn't even bother to stop me since it's under the limit, but now for these purchases I will have to go and file with the AFIP? That's ridiculous. This is why I say I bet they haven't even got anything figured out. If you're going to regulate online purchases at least apply the same rules as you would with purchases coming through Ezeiza.

Didn't Moreno inform us that foreign books were toxic?

If they'd really work for the person who pay their wages I'd be ok with it. If we would choose them on other grounds that good ads, I'd be ok with it.
Worst thing is most get extra checks or endorsements to keep climbing the ladder and end up working for those who "help" them achieve so instead of those paying 200k to their day job. Every campaign should be a list of all their yes/no votes, what he promised last time he got elected and if he achieved it or no, etc.
I don't prefer US politics over Argentine ones, toilet might flush right or left but basically they should all end up in the drain.

A) Sungirl, you can get a cuil on line. Not big deal. The law doesn t look for prosecute people who brings ítems that aren t taxable.

B.) gringoboy, my partner is from South Korea. That s why my reference to NK.

C) Nobody cares what people do with his imported ítems but, importing without paying taxes is a federal crime plus involves tax evasión.

That's the law.

D) sometimes freedom is confused with anarchism. Libertarians seems to be anarchist of the right.

Bajo -- I already have a CUIL, I am in order. I have a DNI. I also have a foregin credit card still that I use to make book purchases off of Amazon. That's it, books. Why order anything else when it gets stolen anyway? So what I'm saying is it's absolutely ridiculous that now to make about 200 bucks worth of purchases a year -- that were they to be brought in via my luggage at Ezeiza would be completely overlooked because they don't even hit my spending limit -- now I have to fill out a form with the AFIP. I'm no libertarian but to me that is an invasion of privacy and persecution. This is why I say I bet they have no idea how the hell they are going to enact this. It's one thing to be persecuting the guy who is ordering 5,000 USD a month of items and obviously for resale, but another for the person who is buying a few hundred dollars a year. If every Argentine (and resident) is allowed a 300 USD limit on goods every time they come back in via the Aduana, why now when they make a purchase online for 10 bucks do they have to file with AFIP?

Pls explain? if you have an account and request to buy Euros and debit your account, no big deal! Black money?

On 2009 my girlfriend wanted to buy 20.000 euros. It took 2 weeks through the bank in the US.

Plus, on the CFK there were custom agents checking how much money you had in cash.

Black money: the big deal with the foreign currency in Argentina is that it was the simplier way to wash money that didn t pay taxes.

You can travel without any permitión and you can spend in dollars (according to the taxes you pay) using a credit card.

The problem is that everybody pays 1000 pesos monotributo when there is a lot of people who should be paying about 200 times more.
