I use Priceline. You have to spend some time bidding on prices and you don't know which hotel you'll wind up with but I've always felt like I got very good deals.

We've used Hotel Tonight but then we were willing to do a spur of the moment deal that same day. Just don't do it during Fashion Week or any other weeklong large convention.

Small, clean rooms, good views, modern.
About $120 if booked through Airbnb
