Over a million descendants of Spaniards have applied for citizenship, overwhelming consulates

labour shortages in unattractive jobs. the same reason you don't see an argentine taking a construction job at home is the same reason spaniards aren't. low pay and bad hours. i assure you that the argentines who are getting spanish citizenship are not moving there to work as a construction or agricultural worker.
Well taken but , workers are needed at all levels, for the green houses in Almeria and Granada workers from North Africa are suitable . Like the Temporarios/Braceros for the California harvest.

I find it a bit odd that this didn't happen before. It seems like a policy both Italy and Spain should've applied years ago: you don't get the right mad at you since they're only opposed to a certain type of immigration and most on the left will not be against it either. So you get an influx of people who adapt seamlessly to the country that are also willing to work. When you think about the demographics in both places not many will be opposed.
Good for Italy and Spain and meh for us since we're losing hardworking people who could help the country.

The article does explain it has been done before
The total number of those seeking to benefit from the new law, 2.3 million people, is 4.5 times the figure reached under its predecessor, the 2007 Historical Memory Law (503,439).
