Overstaying your visa in Argentina, makes it difficult to get US work visa?

My girlfriend has been living in Argentina for 2 years now, and had a DNI. It expired in March and she didn't want to pay to renew it for a whole year when she knew she was leaving soon. I know this wasn't the smartest thing to do.

She got accepted for a summer internship in Washington D.C. and applied for the G-4 work visa, using the DS-160 form. She got approved and the final step is going to the embassy in Costa Rica (where she's from) to submit final paperwork and get the actual visa stamp.

Is there any chance she will get denied after they see that she overstayed her visa in Argentina? Do they care about that?

Appreciate any help, as this is stressful for both of us. I'm planning on moving to DC to be with her.
