What is or isn't creepy is cultural as well. My health is more important than what others will say.
I remember doing so many things before they became a habit among people in general which they laughed at before. Now they do the same, just because it became "culturally accepted".
Besides, it's also a signal to all disrespectful smokers. When your rights are disrespected and instead of complaining, you take action and solve it yourself, the people causing the issue feel uncomfortable and tend to start being more conscious. The situation is put in evidence and they don't want to feel bad towards others who could be watching.
It would be great if this theory worked regarding Buenos AIres drivers. Or , etc....
