Hi,
Hi my dog has allergies to wheat and I am trying to find a store that has a large variety of dry dog food.
Palermo is ideal but I can visit other areas if needed.
thanks
I think you'll find that in BA, there are very few options for dog food. There seem to be only a handful of brands available: Royal Canin, Purina, Iams and a few others. But note that all these brands are ranked very low by virtually all standards. For all the interest in pets and with all the dog owners in the city, unfortunately, the education level has not grown to the point where quality food is a real option.
But there are some solutions, regardless of where you live.
If you're dog has a wheat problem (I'm imagining it's an allergic reaction causing red spots, etc), then the easiest solution is to just prepare the food yourself.
I feed my dog cooked brown rice and mix in some lentils and garbanzos. Other times, I swap the lentils and garbanzos for some salmon. And other times, it's mixing in other vegetables like raw carrots, etc.
There are a few schools of thought on proper pet diets. Through my training, I've found that a variety of foods offered with a central constant (brown rice) works best. But like you, I avoid wheat unless it's from whole grain flour i bought.
If you don't have the time to cook brown rice for the week or you are on a budget, there is one option for food you can buy that will suit your needs.
Purina Pro makes a food that is wheat free. It comes in a pink bag and is salmon and rice based. It ranks higher than any other Purina Pro food, but still ranked lower than what would be acceptable in other countries. But it is technically better than anything else you'll routinely find in BA, sells for $200AR for a huge bag. I know a place in Palermo that sells a smaller size for $20AR if you want to try it. Just contact me offline and I'll share.
I have checked out about 20 different places in BA for dog food options...including some places that were 3 stories. But it's the same low quality foods at each place. So not many options.
