Presidental Election in 2011

Alfonsín - drunk
It's the first time I hear something like that. Bignone, Galtieri, etc are supposed to have been heavy drinkers.

As long as it is not Cretina or any of her 'movement' members it can't get worse. Cretina is conducting us to Moyano as President, which would be a good reason to give up Argentine citizenship, it would not make sense anymore.

CFK - Populist, center-left in economics, neo-keynesian; they print money to maintain the rate of growth and the high dollar, thus inflation, but unemployment is maintained low and there is a pro-exports policy. Industrialization, not so much, and some shady contracts with foreign companies regarding our natural resources are maintained.Poverty will be reduced only slowly, many will be maintained by social plans. Education will get better, expect better media (TV, newspapers) once the new law enters into full effect.

Macri - neocon. Privatization of everything possible, favors private education, so the model to copy would be Chile: education only for the rich. Very corrupt, even more than CFK, the money simply dissapears in hands of his private companies. Police repression. Monetarist probably, so expect a lower dollar, lower inflation, high unemployment, higher rates of crime and repression in poor areas as an answer, a xenophobic wave. Well, it is Sarkozy-Berlusconi but with less lights (if that is possible) in his head.

Duhalde - Populist, economics depends on what he can steal and what is necessary to maintain power. No idea, and that is bad, he is a pragmatic, will do anything necessary to continue in charge. Repression if necessary, devaluation if necessary, etc. It is like one of the mayors of the Great Buenos Aires districts, but with more power.

Alfonsin, Carrio et al - See De La Rua. Expect the same. Will be toppled in less than a year, with help from the Peronist party and most of the people.

Possible Left: Binner and Sabatella - European Social-Democracy in Argentina. I wish they had more power. They will stay low, Binner in Santa Fe, Sabatella in some BA counties, maybe more, slowly building power. Neokeynesian, pro-industrialists, in this case zero-corruption and respect for all laws, not only property ones.

I will probably vote for CFK, but if there is a movement with Binner et al and some movement towards social-democracy takes speed, my vote will go there. Never Duhalde, and Macri should be in prison,so there it is my position.

Actually, I think whoever is president will have a very difficult job. I think this period of relative prosperity in Argentina will not last much longer. This may be apparent by the election or not. Given big economic problems are coming I would prefer the current administration to remain in power so that blame can be properly assigned.

Don't listen to a lot of the nonsense put out by some of the posters here. I don't think Argentina will change until things get a lot worse. Don't know when this will happen but I wouldn't be holding my breath. Argentina has been on a downward trajectory for decades already.

I can't reveal my sources but will say I have nothing against drunks, in fact many of my friends are drunks and if the FPV doesn't get in Ricardo is the only other candidate I could possibly tolerate regardless of where he is on the 12 step program.

I thought what Cobos did was honorable.

Actually, I don't agree with the traitor label either, the votes went to him according to the constitution and he had every right to vote the way he did, you can question his motives (and I do) but not his right to vote the way he did. And I don't doubt that 'honourable' was what he was going for but one only has to review his political record both here and in the Mendoza legislature to see that a little more scepticism may be in order before endowing such adjectives on him.
