I am looking to get a CT Scan/Tomografía from a public hospital in BA. I am not sure which public hospital I should go to. Does anyone have any insight into which public hospital is the "best" or are there any guides online that would direct me to one of the better hospitals? Also, do public hospitals require you to make appointments in advance? Thanks

As far as I know Hospital Fernandez is one of the best ones ... here's a link to their appointments (turnos) page:
www.hospitalfernandez.org.ar/turnos.asp?intersec=turnos&sec=com&enc=02

Basically they say they give out appointments for the day since 6:30 am :O up to 2 pm.
Having said that, I take it you already have a doctor's order for the Cat Scan? Otherwise you should see a GP/specialist first to get one issued and then you'd be able to book the appointment.

Hope that helps ... best of luck!

I understand that only Hospital Fernandez and Hospital Pirovano offer it free of charge in Capital Federal. I heard a while ago that the waiting list was 4-6 months long.

Getting a CAT or MRI will take you a few months. You have to go and get a turno in person with the Dr order to get it. They start at 6.30 am and are very limited. Typically people go several hours in advance ( 4 am or so ) and wait in line. In the greater BsAs it might be a bit faster at Posadas Htal, as the city hospitals are highly demanded.

I have no idea about how complicated it might be to get a CAT or MRI (others here seem to have that info) -- however, I can share that I had a good experience with the private hospital, Hospital Aleman. I needed to see an OB/GYN, was able to make an appointment one day ahead, had t wait almost no time at all, and the visit cost about $170 (pesos).

The question was about public hospitals, not private hospitals, at the latter it is easy to get those done and fast.

Thank you for the responses! I think that I will just stick with a private hospital in that case. Does anyone have any recommendations (i.e. Alemán, Italiano) or any cost estimates for an office visit/ct scan?

Last year someone told me that, having the prescription from a medical doctor, the cost to have the study done was $600 to $ 800 (pesos argentinos) for a knee, or shoulder study.

The cost for a visit to a medical office to get the prescription costs $150 to $200 usually.
