Question for expats from South Africa

I love Cape Town and would also be happy to live there if it wasn't for the crime. I do feel safer in Buenos Aires even though I've had a gun pointed at me here. I'm just scared of the more violent crimes you read about in SA, such as being rapped and then chopped up with a machete.
