Rent payment in foreign currency

if you are paying in cash, there is zero chance you are getting a receipt of any kind because doing this implies you have a non legal arrangement.

and this fine is laughable. is that stated in any sort of contract? if not, tell them to kindly f-off.

He can tell them to f-off but then he will lose his deposit most likely, and it's not like you are in a position to bargain when you are most likely leaving the country the same day your contract ends.

thanks for your response - does one usually hand over the deposit of 2 months rent in USD cash and get no receipt from anyones experience?

What exactly are you going to use the receipt for?

to prove that the owner actually received the deposit in cash or are deposits and rent usually transferred into a bank account here
No receipt, no money would be my answer. And if you're already living in your unit, if they continue to try and play hard ball you should exercise your rights. Tell them you're planning on giving 0800-999-DENU (3368) a call and see how fast things get straightened out.

Every country I've lived in or know friends that have lived in, it's the same story, scammy, scumbag landlords trying to abuse immigrants and foreigners, and Argentina is no different. Don't give them an inch because they'll take a mile.

Must get a receipt showing the exact date. amount and currency paid. Bear in mind that each time the rent goes up you must upgrade your deposit. If the deposit is in pesos, no interest is added ..!
