San Jose has never ever had a good reputation. Ever. A disappointing capital of a beautiful country. Ive also heard that owning rural properties 'in paradise' can be problematic with ursurpers and robbers targeting gringos. However the country on the whole is pretty safe as I gather especially considering who its neighbours are.
