What are the current rules for Permanent Residents with DNIs returning to Argentina? Also does anyone know if DNIs will be extended to allow stays outside Argentina for over two years?

You can return just need a PCR test within 72 hours of the flight and fill in the DDJJ

current rules are here: https://www.argentina.gob.ar/interior/migraciones/ddjj-migraciones
negative PCR together with 7-days obligatory self-isolation.

But at this moment the rules still say "hasta el 31 de enero "

So I wonder if they may be changed since Feb 1st

Yes, it's till 28 Feb now. And they will keep extending it for a few more months. Don't expect a serious policy change before end of April at the earliest.

The AA website says a Covid test is required 72 hours before departure. Doesn't say what sort of Covod test (there seem to be two). Is this definitely a necessity? Seems expensive and hard to do within the 72 hour timeframe.

PCR test only? That seems to take three days or more for results to get back. The rapid test is done in hours. They don't accept the rapid test?
