WOAH WOAH! HELP!
Lindsaylake, is this true? Is that what they charged you? Say it ain't so! What happened to you when you picked up your clothes?
My mom just informed me that I have a 7.5 pound box coming my way FULL of CLOTHES. Happy birthday! Now, after researching about aduanas, I don´t even want the stupid clothes and the hassle.
And is it 80% of what value? The official Mercosur value, the value my mom purchased them for, or the full price on the tags if listed?
From what it looks like, you are not even allowed to ship used clothes without a Certificate of Disinfection....http://www.afip.gov.ar/aduana/envios.asp. Plus, new clothes are not allowed to be shipped through the post without CO. Here, they explain that several categories of shipments cannot be sent through mail and need a Certificate of Origin http://www.afip.gov.ar/genericos/guiavirtual/consultas_detalle.aspx?id=4450444
So to me, maybe 80% was their ridiculous fee to look the other way of items prohibited through the "Regimen de Envios Postales" because they require Certificate of Origin.
....Then, my favorite, the list of the tariff codes for all the kinds of things that need a Certificate of Origin...http://www.infoleg.gov.ar/infolegInternet/anexos/120000-124999/122076/norma.htm
which basically include any woven textile made out of anything-cotton, wool, synthetics. Forunately, carded wool was spared! It seems RIDICULOUS and crazy, right? But anyone who knows the history and the craziness of the international quota system which was the Multo-Fiber Arrangement that had importers shipping shirts without sleeves and calling them vests...and Country A shipping parts of clothes to add a little piece in Country B to gain country of origin status to ship under the quota for Country C...understands a little why they are crazy about clothes. But what the hell? USPS says "Ready-made clothes and fabrics unless they are typical family presents and have no commercial value." But gifts from grandma seem to matter not to the aduanas.
Will they at least let me destroy the items in the package so I don´t have to pay to pad the pockets of any chorros? [/FONT]
