Has anyone exchanged a Spanish or Italian driving licence for an Argentine one?

No but I'm pretty sure my wife mentioned in the past that a full Spanish driving license will get you an Argentine one and vice versa. She's out at the mo so will ask her when she gets back if that info is out of date.
She was rather miffed when she found out the UK didn't offer her the same deal with her Argentine license.....no bloody wonder I told her!! :D

It depends on where you are getting your DL.
In San Isidro they wouldn't consider my foreigner DLs and I had to take the whole exam (theory and practice) like I had none, including a 6-month period as newly licensed driver (sticker + limitations). Other users have reported that in V. Lopéz they were given a local license, no question asked.

In Capital you can trade in your Italian DL for an Argentine one (which means that you will lose your Italian DL, which takes far longer and more money to get). This is was the IT consulate says.
I think that getting a license here is so straightforward and cheap that even having to re-take the whole exam is not that much of an hassle.

Thanks to both.

My licence is a full Spanish one . I got stopped and breathalysed at 11.00am on Tuesday ( routine control papers , insurance etc....a 0.0 reading by the way )

I was advised to change my licence to the Arg one . My doubt was if i had to hand in my Spanish one or was I allowed to keep it.

Serafina seems to responded to that one.....

I was given my UK Provisional license back when I got my Argentine license. They obviously had no idea what 'Provisional' or the big red L meant. Or maybe they did and ignored it as it was done via the back door.

The rules may have changed since, but in 2009 I simply presented my UK license in Vicente Lopez, paid a small fee for photos etc, took an eye and road sign test and the license turned up a week later, no other questions asked.
I did the same two years ago for renewal and added motorcycles, again with no questions asked, apart from them taking another photocopy of my UK paper long form DL.
For me anyway, it's been the least troublesome of all Argentine paper chases.
