actually, to be honest, spanish is a bit more sexist than say, german. you can have 19 daughters and one son, but you still have 20 hijos.

Yes but even in a genderless language like English. If someone says that there are 20 actors in the play, unless otherwise specified, that could mean just the male actors or both actors and actresses. Just like spanish.

actually these days most actresses would prefer to be called actors. i guess "actress" went the way of "stewardess", but - sorry, i'm really getting off the subject now.
