Geek question: I can no longer receive text messages from my NYC bank and other US organizations on my iPhone here in BA. I have two eSim cards, one registered with my NYC number and the second with my Argentine mobile number (Claro is the service provider). I recently called my US bank about a problem and they said they had to "verify" me, which meant I had to respond to a text message I never received. The disgusting joys of tech! I’ve spent almost 10 hours this week on this and similar problems.

Some banks have the option to have their computer call you and read out the 2FA code for verification. You listen and type it into the web verification form. I have some numbers that the bank will not be able to send text sms, but can call.

Google voice works for all my banks except wells Fargo. The 2FA code someone mentioned. I've heard some people use Tello which I'm not familiar with but should look into. I'm paying for two phones and the US one I only use once a week.

Tello...super. cheap. great customer service. I had one problem out of hundreds of codes sent to me.....and that was a picture I.d. problem and could have been my phone. My experience with Google voice has been questionable as far as receiving codes.

I also have Tello and recommend. It's great, but about a year ago, for new customers, they instituted a change whereby you have to activate your line while in the US. While activating from abroad is officially not supported, there are individuals on the Tello subreddit that say they have been able to find workarounds and shared guides about what they did.

I am assuming your NYC number is still serviced by a US carrier and you are just roaming on Claro. Assuming you are not using a VoIP service. In that case you should be able to get a text from your bank. Did you try getting a text (and a call) from a US number (from a friend or family) on your NYC number, to make sure the issue is not limited to your bank?

Bank of America declined to do that :(

Hank, question-who is your carrier? And is the problem with just this one bank? And may I ask....what phone are you using here?
My carrier here is Claro. My US carrier is Tello. I have had problems receiving verification texts from other sites although I do receive text message from friends and Claro
