Text nightmares

Tello...super. cheap. great customer service. I had one problem out of hundreds of codes sent to me.....and that was a picture I.d. problem and could have been my phone. My experience with Google voice has been questionable as far as receiving codes.
I have tried to call Tello, but the wait time is insane. Last night they told me it was too long and too call back again

I am assuming your NYC number is still serviced by a US carrier and you are just roaming on Claro. Assuming you are not using a VoIP service. In that case you should be able to get a text from your bank. Did you try getting a text (and a call) from a US number (from a friend or family) on your NYC number, to make sure the issue is not limited to your bank?
I routinely get text messages from my sister and friends in the US.

Bank of America declined to do that :(
My father banks with BofA and doesn't have a cell phone, and they do call his landline to give him his 2fa authentications. Maybe he was grandfathered in somehow as he's banked with them ages and has always had that same landline. I also use Tello and got my 2fa on my cell a couple weeks ago from them, but perhaps they've done a very recent switch-up? It's absolutely zany that they create the problem by all the large corps leaking our info and we, the consumers, have to jump through hoops to access our own accounts. How long have you had that Tello number associated with your bank file? Mine was one that I ported from my old Skype account and have listed on the BofA account for over a decade. I hope that it clears up soon for you and you can find a work around.

My Tello number is the Verizon number that I have had for more than 20 years. I guess I'll try to escalate this by finding a way to reach Tello senior staffers, and those at BofA

At the risk of making myself appear (even more) stupid (than I usually do) are you sure these are all really text messages?

I have an Apple account for my MacBook but the phone number associated with it is a Nokia. When I send SMS messages from my Nokia, iPhone users receive them in their messages app and when they think they are messaging me to my phone number I get a stream of connected SMS.

When a bank sends a 2FA SMS out, it really is an SMS so can you confirm that when other people successfully contact you that it has genuinely been sent by SMS and not by messaging app?

It has only gotten worse. Apparently I had to "reactivate" my eSim for my number here. I did that. Now I can't make calls to Tello using my Argentine number, and I can't make calls using my US number!! This is beyond insane. Does anyone know of a telephone service professional with experience dealing with this? I want someone I can meet in person since obviously I cannot talk to him on the phone.

Try this:

1. Make sure Wi‑Fi Calling is enabled. Search for “Wi‑Fi Calling” in your phone’s settings and turn it on.
2. Go to Tello.com. Make sure you have calling minutes available and that you have entered and saved a US Emergency E911 address.
3. Turn on Airplane Mode on your phone.
4. While Airplane Mode is still on, turn Wi‑Fi back on and wait for your phone to connect to a Wi‑Fi network.

Now try making a call from your Tello number.
