I was in NYC a year ago, and all restaurants there were significantly more expensive than BA. There is no way he is charging less there. Greasy spoon breakfast for two there, $50. Decent but not upscale restaurants $40 to $60 each. Even hot dogs on the little rolling heater machines like at the kiosko wer double to triple BA prices. If you haven’t been back to the USA in the last year, you have no idea how expensive it has gotten.

Note on the "True Cost": Traditional steakhouses in New York serve everything ala carte. When you factor in essential side dishes ($10–$20 each), drinks, local taxes, and a standard 20% gratuity, a dinner for two at a classic steakhouse easily averages $300 to $350 total.

I am trying to say that Don Julio would have to double his Argentine prices to afford rent and labor in NYC, and that the high end steakhouses in NYC are already double, to triple the price at Don Julio.
In other words, although inflation and bad economic management have indeed made everything in Argentina more expensive, both in pesos and in dollars, it still has a long way to go to be higher than US prices.
And being in the US six months of every year, I can tell you most things in the US, including rent, real estate sales prices, food, and restaurants, have gone up a LOT since covid, and most places its still significantly more expensive than BA.
BA SEEMS to be really expensive to people like you and me who have been here decades, but its still cheap compared to some places, the US being one of them.
I dont like Don Julio, or El Preferido- I think they are overpriced and dumbed down food for traditionalist argentines and dumb tourists- but they are not really "expensive" by global standards.
Mallman, in Uruguay, is much more. Better food, though.
