The Luck Of The World Cup Draw.

I meant in the future. soccer is growing very fast... I remember once reading, I cant remember if in youtube or where, a big discussion between english and american, I think it was due to the last WC when they play against each other. Some of the american people looked like european or south american fans, very passionate.

It's a vocal minority of true believers. Most soccer fans in the US, though, are immigrants from south of the border who root for their countries of origin (and I welcome them).

maybe they are monority, but soccer is growing and growing, and not only for latinos. The other day I watched a football club match in Australia, and the enormous stadium was packed. I couldnt believe it. Football in Australia. And then I asked and I was told football is very popular in Australia.
Give soccer 20 years and it will be the third sport or more, if its not today.

Australia has a similar 'problem' as the USA with regard to soccer, in the way that we play our own sports (Australian football, Rugby League etc) instead of soccer. It is slowly removing the stigma of being a bit of girls game - Australia's first world cup (1972) captain wrote a good book on the trouble of the sport in Australia called "Sheilas Wogs and Pooftas" - the title summarises the unfortunate attitude Australians have had to the sport in the past.
There is one facet of the game that Aussies still don't embrace / tolerate and it's the diving - If you watch the A-League (local Australian league) and the national team you will notice that they do not dive. It is a form of cheating and weak.

I think you are right and it is slowly getting more popular - The local league is 10 years old now and getting stronger bit by bit each year. It is becoming more 'cosmopolitan' and not limited to a traditionally immigrant population anymore.

I'm not sure if this sort of situation has been similar in the USA or not.

It is important that we qualify for the World Cup every 4 years, as the code really suffers otherwise. The sport does get a boost every 4 years and everyone gets on the Socceroo bandwagon each WC.

We have our work cut out for us playing Spain, Nederlands and Chile, but it is good to play the big boys as it gets more coverage and hype. As long as they give their all for 90 mins I think we'll be happy. Maybe we can push our luck and snatch a point. Would be nice to score a goal or two.
Our players are not up to scratch but our coach is pretty switched on I believe.

I would like to see a Germany / Argentina final. But a Brazil / Argentina final would be cool too, with their rivalry and the home crowd thing.

Taking a dive is not exclusive to soccer - it also occurs in the NBA. One of the best at it, of course, is the Argentine Manu Ginóbili (who, soccer-sourced dives aside, is indeed an excellent player).

I think this time is for real. The MLS is stronger every year, and not only by buying stars from europe, but locally, internally. Its hard to think it will disappear like it happened to the others.

Personally, I think soccer's a much better participant sport for kids than US football, which is truly dangerous, but kids lose interest as they acquire the hand-eye coordination necessary for more complex sports like baseball and basketball.

"complex sports like baseball and basketball."....................................................oooooooui, they are going to come screaming out of the woodwork on that one.

Scotland and Wales are separate countries, not provinces nor regions (like Catalunya (they're just a province), provinces and states don't have their own international teams.. Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland are part of the UK. What baffles me is why they compete as Great Britain in the Olympics but decided not to when it came to FIFA.
I'm Welsh and when we're up against England on the rugby pitch, the green and red blood literally oozes from my pores.
When England play in the world cup, I'm English up to a point.
When the UK takes on the world, I'm British.
