I met an 86-year-old woman during my morning walks at the plaza. We got acquainted during the past year, and she invited me to have lunch with her at her apartment. We share a love for music, so I invited her to join me for concerts.

Last month her son, who lives in New Jersey, arranged for a trial move into a senior facility on Corrientes 1864 and Callao. She invited me to visit her last week and said she enjoys living there. The place can only be described as a five-star apartment for seniors with everything provided in the way of services and activities. Her son told me that a place of this caliber would cost ten times more in the US.

I met another woman on the beautiful outdoor plaza who immediately began speaking to me in English, since her two daughters live in the US. She told me that she studied piano, so I invited her to join me for the monthly concerts at Congreso.

If you are looking for first-class accommodations for a family member who can no longer live alone, Senior Apartments is a place to investigate. Their site provides everything you need to know.

It at a great location and a fine facility. I live about a block from there. About a year ago I inquired into the rent and I believe I was told U$S 5,000/Mo. If this is accurate, it's hard to believe it costs 10x more in the US.

If it is really U$S 5,000 a month it would NOT cost 10x more in the US. This is from AI: average USA cost U$S 5,900. Who in Argentina can afford that? 2% of the population?

Right: "Middle Class need not apply"

recently I looked at prices of places like this....for a friend, you know ;)

near Philly a very good place is in Lancaster, with options ranging from independent living to nursing care. Independent living in a one BR apartment is around 3400usd/month...plus an extra 1700 for an additional person....BUT there is a sizeable buy-in of about 200k

in northern PBA, where I hang out when I am in Argentina, a friend has a 90+ relative in a nursing place, one of the better of that area. Is nice, loots of greenery, out in the country, good service, but rooms are a bit small and shared. About 1500usd/mo for this person, no buy-in

I looked at one of those facilities in Nuñez. Efficiency apartments started at US 6000 per month. PLUS additional fees for doctors, medication supervision, and diapers if needed. The whole thing came to almost eight thousand dollars.

There are a few places run by the Jewish community that offer assisted living, another renowned one is called Edificio Manantial in Belgrano.

Shocking price !

Lovely place but fiendishly expensive, too.

A friend ended up at place in Villa Ballester. An older building, beautifully maintained, with great service, and a beautiful park. But even out there in the boondocks. a single room with private bathroom was over three thousand dollars per month.
