The SSA foreign enforcement questionnaire arrived by local mail

I'm digging up this old thread because I'm worried I might have missed reporting in 2024.

I filed the "proof of life" form in 2023, but I never got one in 2024. The question is, should I have? Do you only have to file every year after 70, or does the simple fact of being an expat get you in the every-year category?

So, for those of you who are under 70, and filed in 2023, did you get a form in 2024?

The comment by Gracielle at the end of page 1 of this thread seems to suggest that I wouldn't have gotten one this year.
Red, just checking if you (or anyone else) have received the proof of life form from SSA. I'm due this year but still no form. I'm a bit ansty about this considering all the confusion currently happening with the SSA. Thanks.

Hey, Guido. No, I haven't received mine yet, and yes, I'm antsy about it as well, for the exact same reason.

According to what was said in the last big discussion we had about this, back in 2023, they are mailed out in May and June. Actually, that's the first post in this thread. That being said, it has sometimes taken mail from the States a full month to reach me here in Argentina.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi Red,
Has your address in CABA changed since submitting the FORM SSA-7162-OCR-SM in May 2023?
If so did you notify the SSA of the new address? If not, that may be the reason why you have yet to
receive the form for 2025. A SSA representative at the U.S. Consulate in CABA can assist you with this issue.

Yes it has, and yes I did :)

I did it all by email, and in about a week I received a reply from the FBU at the embassy confirming that my change of address had been accepted. That was back at the end of February.

OK....you have done your part. I suggest you contact the FBU again if the form doesn't arrive by mid-July.

I'm not drawing it just yet, but how do they know if you are living outside of the US? Are you having your Social Security deposited in an Argentine bank? If I keep my banking in the US and an address for correspondence, and not tell anyone I'm moving overseas, do they have some way of knowing? The only thing I would probably need to do is claim the foreign tax credit on my tax return but I'm not sure if that would be reported to SSA.

If you apply for a pensionista visa in Argentina, it requires you to get a proof of ss from the USA and submit it to migraciones. They, in turn, somehow notify SS, and then you need to tel SS where you actually live.

Thank you, Gracielle, for that excellent suggestion.

Has anyone received their form yet?
Hey, Red. Thanks for responding. I should clarify that I've been receiving SS since 2009 when I signed up at the embassy here. Usually the form arrives towards the end of June, but this year I believe/feel it may take longer due to the new regime's fiddling with SSA (slashing staff, etc.), as I mentioned previously. I could be wrong, of course, and the form could arrive any day, so we shall see.

And thanks to Gracielle, who always has good suggestions, in addition to being a welcome fount of information!

In over 5 years I have never had a proof of life form sent to me. I asked a person high up at social security why I have never done this and they said that they use multiple proof of life systems in addition to the form mentioned here. One of those proofs is your contact with social security online using a verification system of the federal government such as id.me or login.gov. I have verified using both of these and login to the social security system every quarter. In addition, I have requested 4 times proof of social security income from the US embassy social security department in Buenos Aires...they tell the USA main computer system that they have been in contact with you.
