“Cutting edge” is not so much interpreting too much as interpreting incorrectly. Same for “polished”.
Nikad is probably right. I might also consider “fine”, as in “a fine point”. Maybe even “acute”.
“Crisp” may be closer to the point, but may already getting too far from a literal translation.
In this context, and if I had to decide right now, I’d probably settle on “stark”.
