Traveling to Iguazu by myself?

I'm going to be in BA for a study abroad program for about 5 weeks. After my class is over, I am hoping to spend about 3 days in Iguazu to see the waterfalls and relax, but now it seems everybody in my group who previously wanted to travel with me won't be able to. I know my husband (who is staying home with our kids while I'm in Argentina) will worry about me being on my own, so I wanted to find out if there was really anything to worry about?

I'll be flying from BA, and plan to stay inside Iguazu National Park, and just plan on doing the regular tourist stuff. I don't speak Spanish, but I will be studying it the whole time I'm in BA, so I'm hoping I'll be able to grasp it somewhat- is English spoken a lot in Iguazu?

IMHO, Iguazu is a relatively safe place. If you're staying inside the park (Sheraton?) even better. The argentine park is very well run, with a good presence of rangers and tourists. If you dont want to do the trails alone, it should not be too hard to meet fellow tourists there and join them. The Sheraton is one of the best hotels in the area, so I imagine their security is good as well.

The only place we felt somewhat unsafe was the 3 border area (Cuidad del Este in Paraguay, and a bit of Foz do Iguazu in Brazil). Its a bit far off the falls, and most tourists don't head that way anyways.

But I do recommend the Brazilian side of the falls. You should have no problem there either and it has great views of the falls. If you do go, be sure to get your visa (if you need one) and hire a driver from your hotel concigere to cross you over the border and wait for you for ride back.

ps: The desk staff at the hotel should speak English. The ticket conters and drivers may not, but they are well used to tourists so you will be ok.
