Western Union blocks domestic self-transfers in Argentina (Galicia for me)

High forum friends,

I know this topic has come up before, but it looks like the information has changed so I want to do a 2026 version here. I have transferred Western Union to myself a few times since I've been here, to pick up in effectivo. I now have an account with Galicia, and I was trying to see what the best way would be to send myself money from the US, some old Forum posts suggested Western Union, so I did just that ($25.00 test amount). The site would freeze up, I called once and didn't really get an answer, then I called Western Union today and was told that I cannot send myself money to myself in a bank account in Argentina. Because the IP address knows I'm here. Anyone else have this experience?

Have you called Western Union US or Western Union Argentina?

When you tried to send money to your bank account,
was it the same Western Union account you had used before for cash pickup?
 
I called Western Union US and they told me. Google search and chatgpt seem to agree, that conflicts w posts here but they are older.

Same western Union account I used before to send myself cash. Sent my girlfriend $20 the same hour I got rejected to test everything else. She got in no problem.
 
I've never heard of the IP being an issue. Keep in mind if you go to the Western Union website, it takes you to the Argentine webpage by default. You can simply correct that in the search bar directly to go to the US webpage.

Assuming you created your western union login on the US webpage, the Argentine webpage should redirect you to it once it detects that your login wasn't created there.

Personally, I've had the webpages freezing for me as well. This started a couple months ago and I've been doing all my transfers now through the phone app to avoid the issue.

Also make sure your Declaracion Jurada is up to date. Western Union bank to bank transfers require the form submitted unlike transfers to Cash agents.
 
I never did a declaracion jurada... Must only be on the app. I'll have to download it and try. I've just been using the website.

No, it's not related to any app. It is obligatory to do a declaracion jurada in order to receive a Western Union transfer to your Argentine bank account.

Western Union should have sent you an email regarding the requirement....something like this:

Estimado/a Sr./Sra.:
Recientemente le ha enviado dinero directo a su cuenta bancaria, que en breve estará siendo acreditado.

Por disposición de la normativa vigente, debe completar un proceso de registro que tendrá validez durante 15 meses.
  • Si esta es la primera vez que Ud. recibe dinero en su cuenta, deberá completar dicho proceso dentro de los próximos 90 días. Por favor tenga en cuenta que, si durante ese período Ud. recibiera más de dos operaciones adicionales sin registrarse -es decir, un total de 3 operaciones- deberá completar el registro antes de que pueda cobrar la cuarta operación. Caso contrario, el dinero será reembolsado a su Remitente.
  • Si Ud. recuerda haberse registrado en el pasado, la razón de este email es que su registro se encuentra vencido y necesitamos por favor que vuelva a enrolarse.

Una vez que complete y envíe los campos obligatorios, su perfil quedará registrado en dos días hábiles, con lo que podrá recibir transacciones futuras lo más rápido posible.

If you never received it, I would suggest calling the 810 # and requesting they email you the link.
