When foreigners leave Argentina permanently do they renounce their DNI?

As far as I know, permanent residency expires two years after the "last" time you set foot on Argentine soil, and a DNI card "expires" fifteen years after the date it was first issued or renewed.
Anyone who had permanent residency and returns to Argentina after a two year absence will be admitted as a tourist. I've never heard of a requirement to turn in the DNI card at any point.

The mistake people do is to go to DNM to ask. If you were over 2 years abroad, just renew your DNI when it expires with a new address and that's it.
