Hi there,

My boyfriend and I are in our mid thirties and are looking for the ultimate place to land and cultivate our future.

We are from Boulder, CO and San Francisco in the US. So we're used to living in hip, chic, progressive minded places. We ourselves are into natural organic food, meditation, personal development, global social change, etc.

We are looking for a place in Argentina that is thriving and a magnet for like minded people.

Ultimately we want to buy a farm and have a self sustainable eco homestead as well.

We would love to open this up to people who have experience living in Argentina - is Cordoba a good place to consider?

We were also looking at being near Mendoza, and Rosario.

Where are the hot spots, the cultural hubs, places of immense natural beauty (and hot springs!) places where you could eat some amazing international food if you were just dying for it, diverse music and nightlife scene, creative pulse, intellectuals, counter culture, access to natural foods, etc.?

We're embarking on a tour of potential cool places to check out from now Oct. 20, 2011 until we find it!

If you have ideas of places we have to see, people we have to meet, things we have to visit, etc. your advice is much appreciated! We would love to meet some friends along the way too!

The coolest place in Argentina for you is the funky town of El Bolson Rio Negro . This is a beautiful town between in a valley surrounded by mountains and lakes . It is the alternative lifestyle of South America and has imho the best food of Argentina. The organic foods are outstanding and it has some of the best raspberries and elderberries on the planet . Try also the Jauja icecream shop rated the best icecream chain of Argentina. This is the original store.

Quite a list, I'd suggest the mendoza area.

Perry's right about El Bolson, at least as far as it is a place of immense natural beauty (not sure if there are hot springs or what Perry means by "funky"), but it probably isn't what you're looking for if you also seek international food if you were just dying for it, diverse music and nightlife scene, creative pulse, intellectuals, counter culture, access to natural foods, etc.

Nonetheless here's one example of what's available:

I found it in this search:

The best place in the world to find everything on your list is probably around Santa Cruz, CA. (or perhaps somewhat further inland). In either case, (and as you well know), the cost of land in California would be staggering compared to Argentina, but the culture you want to be surrounded by and interact with is there...not here.

In Colorado and California.

El Bolson is full of culture and has excellent musicians , artists, and festivals . It is never a boring town and for me the people living there are full of positive energy .

Saying that there is a divide now between those who wish to keep the town pristine and a pro business mayor who is involved in shady deals to commercialise this paradise. The El Bolson casino is a affront to this lifestyle and should have never been alllowed.
Look at this youtube video at this piece of work of a mayor

Thanks, Perry. Do you know if there are many expats living there?Or if there is anything that might be considered an Argentine "counter culture?"
