Hi

Does anyone know where I can buy Ghee (clarified butter). I bought a small jar in Barrio Chino a few days ago but I remember some time ago seeing large imported (and much less expensive) cans of the stuff.

I am thinking that an Indian food store may be the answer if it exists.

cheers

Have been a few times mostly to pick up spices as I live fairly close by. I dunno about ghee though. I didn´t look, but there was a fairly elderly looking Indian lady behind the counter so if she can´t help you I don´t know who can.

thanks for the help guys.

As I said , I did find it in Chinatown but it was a very small jar and very expensive. I will probably have a go at making it.

The organic market on Peru and Chile on Fridays has it but it is expensive, ARS15 for a small jar (about equal in size to a stick of butter).

I made my own, it was so easy. http://www.everydaymaven.com/2013/how-to-make-ghee/
Or google "How to make ghee". But I spent 45/50pesos on the butter alone. Still, it rendered a medium jar plus a smaller one.
Alternatively, you can put butter in the oven for an hour, then take it out and remove the milk solids on top with a strainer, being careful not to stir up the bits that have fallen to the bottom. That way you don't have to sit on the stove for an hour sifting it out one scoop at a time. Good luck!
