Making fresh spring rolls this weekend!!! And in need of that special weird part of them that might just be impossible to find (or impossible to find without traveling way too far).

It's called Jícama, aka Mexican Turnip. I also have a feeling that any turnip will do (I think the basic ones are called 'nabo' in Spanish? Does that also mean a naughty word?) Anyone?

They had regular turnips (nabos) in my autoservicio de frutas y verduras in Nuñez (Cabildo between Congreso and Quesada). It seems like this would be the season for turnips, so I would imagine any decently-sized verduleria might have them. I would just ask around at the verduleria near your house that usually has the most variety.

i've never seen

I was just looking for nabos yesterday and all the local verduderos said they can't be found now because they are out of season!

Turnips (Swedes) are abundant in the Falklands, where they are one of relatively few vegetables that do well outdoors there.

Saw some at coto today, didn't look as good as the ones in the above photo but they wern't too bad either.
