I've to establish myself in BsArs for my work, though I don't like the city that much but this is another issue: which bank should I take? I can't believe the absurd and many requirements for having my money! And I've to pay them for a simple current account too :-(
I've an Argentinean DNI, have the Argentinean and Dutch nationality, I already asked the police for a "Certificado de domicilio" but have nothing else: no constancia de Cuit, no situacion ante la Afip, recibos etc, etc.
I receive my money on my Dutch bank account in the Netherlands so I don't even have an income here but I need a bank account here 'cause I'll receive some money from a "juicio".
Anybody?

The only banks you should consider are: Banco de la Nación, Banco Ciudad, and Banco Provincia. These are all public banks, they won't go out of business. All of the other banks are private companies and are risky at this time in Argentina. The first three banks I mention are government owned and they are not going anywhere. Private banks can pack up and leave, shut down, or anything and there goes your money. Don't keep anything but pesos in your account and get a "caja de ahorros" only. They have the lowest monthy maintenance fees.

thanks David, but do you happen to know how can I avoid all the requirements, I only have an Argentinean ID and certificate of address on the way, not the others 'cause I'm not renting?
cheers

All you need to open an account is your DNI and a current statement from a service such as gas, electricity, or phone (NOT cell phone). That's all they ask for at Banco Nación. If they give you problems at the branch level demand to speak to the manager. Go to the branch that is closest to your legal residence. Keep in mind you can only get a "caja de ahorros" upfront if you do not have proof of stable income "en blanco" for 1 year prior, and they won't give you a credit card or checking account without proof of income. Regarding your lawsuit, I don't see why you have to have a bank account to collect that. I mean they could pay it to you from THEIR bank and then of course you would have to hold the cash somewhere, which of course is not a good idea. I had a friend who won a lawsuit about 2 years ago, and they paid it to her in cash, $80,000 pesos and she went to Banco Ciudad, and withdrew the money with the court order.

that's the thing: I don't have a current statement from a service 'cause I don't rent and, besides, how could I have such a service if I don't have the way -a bank account- to pay them? It's a catch 22 situation.

They will certainly accept the certificate of domicilio issued by the police, but you had better go and explain to them the situation so that you don't have problems when you are ready to collect your money. Here the requirements are so DUMB sometimes and don't make sense and you have to bend over backwards for them to accomodate you. Try anyway, good luck.

Go to Anses with your DNI and apply for a CUIL. Then you can use the CUIL to open an account.

for others in the same situation: i found it online: http://servicioswww.anses.gov.ar/ConstanciadeCuil2/Inicio.aspx
