Looking to buy a cheap phone

My cell phone is still available. Bolo had agreed to buy it, so I turned down other offers. We made plans to meet the next morning. Two hours before the meeting, I got a brief e-mail telling me that he bought a cell phone yesterday and so was no longer interested. Hey, kid, thanks a lot ---...

    american express travellers cheques

The rules are set by the Banco Central, not by AMEX. A few years ago you could cash AMEX traveller's checks in dollars (probably also sterling, but I don't know that) and get paid in dollars, BUT there were two conditions: 1. you had to have the AMEX platinum card, not just the standard gold...

Looking to buy a cheap phone

Your PM option is not activated. I have a Motorola C200 GSM that I want to sell for 100 pesos. It has a chip for Movistar. If you are interested, activate your PM and send me a message.

Soldiers who should face a firing squad before they die of natural causes

Again, what about Mario Firmenich? The fact that none of you has responded to that question suggests that none of you knows who he is, or what he did. Ever heard of Aramburu? During that whole period (starting before the golpe del estado), Argentina was basically engaged in a civil war. It was...

Soldiers who should face a firing squad before they die of natural causes

Sure, you can incite someone to feel hatred, anger, rage, all the negative emotions. And you can stir up a desire for revenge. But how does it help? Focus on the current situation, don't dwell on the past. It's over. Justice won't be served by killing two old men (they won't be killed in any...

Soldiers who should face a firing squad before they die of natural causes

What about Mario Firmenich? He's walking free --- his crimes are never discussed. This is too one-sided. That's why I don't think this is about "justice," it's about selective vengeance. And feelings of hatred and vengeance don't help the nation heal. If my child had been stolen --- well...

    Looking for a rice cooker

The Japanese or Chinese rice cookers here are unbelievably expensive. I once saw a French-made rice cooker at a reasonable price at a cookware place on Talachuano, but I don't remember the address. Perhaps you could find something affordable in the restaurant district (on Jujuy).

Soldiers who should face a firing squad before they die of natural causes

I disagree. I don't think those trials serve any useful purpose, except the cynical political purpose of distracting people from all the problems that should be dealt with (eg, crime, inflation, poverty, etc.). Argentina focuses too much on the past.

    Relocation with 2 kids, 10 & 13 - thoughts?

Michele and Tom are two Americans who did the same thing that you're planning to do --- they came here with their two kids and lived for about a year, just to get the experience of living here and having the kids experience going to school abroad. You might check out their blog posts...

Printer, wireless router, etc for sale

No, but it's odd that you should ask that. Actually there is a sort of buzzing sound if the speakers are plugged that alerts me seconds in advance that I am getting a cell phone call! Not really interference with the call, though.

selling property -transfer services / pay bills as non resident / open bank accounts

Don't cancel the services. The contract that you sign might actually specify that the place comes with a telephone, for example, so if you cancel the service, you just screw everything up The new owner will change the name on the various services but will have to show a copy of the escritura...

Hi from a newcomer! & Need help clarifying some questions please ;-)

Yes, I agree with Lucas. You are right at Plaza Italia. There's a subway stop there, and a LOT of buses have stops at Plaza Italia. The barrio is Palermo. Surrounding barrios are Recoleta, Villa Crespo, and Belgrano; of these, the most affordable is probably Villa Crespo.
