1 day wine tasting in Mendoza.

Maybe a reserva, but we didn't see any tours getting any winery's top end.

    Getting best value for pesos

Pay someone with dollars 5.2 or so and you should have no problem.

1 day wine tasting in Mendoza.

We did a private tour with Trout and Wine. Their guide was extremely knowledgable. One thing we noticed is none of the tours poured super premium wines. I do think a Remis might be best if you want to taste high end wines.

    appartment/people to share with

A good kitchen?? Is this your first visit to BA? $3000/mo apartments do not have good kitchens! I'd advise you to take a room in an already established apartment. Getting one of your own as a non Argentine will be difficult.

Getting Dollars For Rent - Xoom or WesternU?

And all of us should be good and fed up with the crazy demands by landlords. The sooner people start understanding their rights and saying no, the more sane the rental market will become. We had a conversation with a realtor demanding dollars recently. We just said no, we would be paying, as...

    Goodbye Sarkis, Hello Chef lusef

Ive never been sure why so many love Sarkis when we've consistently found their food mediocre. We went occasionally because it was a good change from typical local food. Yesterday we were shopping in the Armenian stores on Scalabrini Ortiz. We asked a store owner for a suggestion for lunch and...

    Is BsAs over rated?

As someone who grew up in Queens, I'd never have considered raising my children there. Ugly buildings, small low quality apartments, mediocre schools, dirty, crowded and loud. I has few of the attributes one would move to NYC for. Of course BA wouldn't have been on my list either....

Getting Dollars For Rent - Xoom or WesternU?

Doesn't Xoom pay out only pesos? I agree with zissou, it's illegal now to demand dollars, and you probably cant get them unless you have a great contact and are transferring a lot. Tell them you'll turn them into AFIP unless they accept pesos at the formal rate.

Any favourite restaurants con onda in Recoleta?

We like Shi Yuan at Tagle 2531. It's a shockingly good Chinese restaurant for BA. Excellent Peking duck. Down the street from there is La Locanda, a new Italian restaurant started by a family from Sardinia. They like to choose what you eat, but when pressed they'll give you a menu. They...

A Comment About All The Negativity

Clearly you're not selling in the right towns. The most sought after Peninsula towns are back at peak prices and will some will go past peak with the huge IPOs that are happening. The point is that when tech recovers (and it largely has), the rest of the country will benefit...

Do you wear a diamond engagement ring?

No, my engagement ring stays in the safe when we're here. And i often don't carry a handbag. I have my favorite clothes for Argentina which have deep zippered pockets. I had a jacket made for my fiancé with inside zippered pockets.

    Amazing how expensive BsArs is

$1000 pesos per month? Really? The average maid at $20 pesos/hr makes multiples of that. Who makes $1000 pesos per month here? Not that I disagree that it's hard to live on local wages, but anyone would truly starve on $1000 per month.

    Cost of Remodel

This is a rage, French house with high ceilings and several big rooms. About half has very detailed trim and moulding as is typical in this type of old home. Paint is internal. Present condition is warn. Have sent you contact info.

    Amazing how expensive BsArs is

I think a devaluation is necessary. Brazil and Chile, big trading partners, are devaluing their currencies o that their exports remain competitive and foreigh investment keeps coming. With an unrealistic currency value, Argentina is continuing to become an island cut off from the global economy.

Then we agree. Coming down here to work for local wages is insane. We employ Argentine software developers, some of the highest paid professionals in AR. But even they live in tiny apartments and watch what they spend for lunch.

    Amazing how expensive BsArs is

That's food or a week? You have no protein in there and that's the expensive part! I think we all agree that food in the supermarkets here has become more expensive than in most of Europe and the states. And that local salaries vs. local expenses is an ugly ratio. I don't know how the average...

    Cost of Remodel

We're looking at a large house that needs paint, a bathroom and a new kitchen. Can anyone help us understand costs? Painting 400 MS, a large kitchen with applances and a large bath?
