Is the Arg peso to USD exchange rate in other countries a sign of things to come?

This sounds like much ado about nothing. There is next to no market abroad for ARS. Exchanging ARS for real money - even at the blue rate - means getting it first to Argentina. And by the time you get it to Argentina, who knows what has happened. So the peso is purchased only at a heavy...

    Airfare Inside Argentina

When I said “agent”, I meant “travel agent”, not an Aerolineas ticket office. And yes, some are open on Sundays. I do limited hours, for example, but try to help when I can.

    Airfare Inside Argentina

Suit yourself (shrug), last minute things it’s actually easier to do with an agency than via their website. So that’s often not true, even though they write it. Whether it’s true or not is dictated by the fare rules, not by the boilerplate language their website displays whenever buying a...

    Airfare Inside Argentina

Yes. It is possible. Not terribly likely, but they are certainly within their rights to do so, if the specified fare is marked as only being available to residents of Argentina. An agent would be able to advise you whether such a restriction applies to a given fare. I say “not terribly likely”...

Anyone interested in exchanging cash Pesos for online USD (PayPal, Payoneer)

Funny, most people sending me with a foreign PayPal usually pay more. If you know it’s just 1% great. Payoneer to Payoneer perhaps, but at some point the money has to be withdrawn to actual funds, and AFAIK that’s where charges come into play.

Anyone interested in exchanging cash Pesos for online USD (PayPal, Payoneer)

The other issue with PayPal is that unless it’s a US account, there’s a nice fee attached. For a substantial sum, a simple bank wire is cheaper. Payoneer isn’t free either.

Argentina's president-elect rejects remaining IMF money

Not sure what you’re disagreeing with, in substance you wrote exactly the same as what @toongeorges did. Basically a case of “You can’t fire me, I quit”. Or, if you will, “F me? No, F you”.

Getting cash USD out of Argentina

I had no idea of the details @pjniki, thank you for this. But when reading @nikad writing “you should not have any problems”, my reaction was somewhere between an eyeroll and thinking “famous last words...”. The thing is, though nearly every process and every tramite is absolutely ridiculous...

    Western Union Change

WU is the AOL of financial services: still making most of their money of grandpas who still don’t know there’s an alternative to the dial-up plan.

    Selling a car

Stove is sold. Stroller still available. Kinda crazy because it’s probably the best deal I’m offering. Back in the day I’d very nearly have murdered someone to get this stroller at such a price. He’ll, I’d have voted CFK. (And fine, then I wouldn’t have murdered someone, I’d have suicided them.)

    Selling a car

One more (probably final) bump. Car sold. Fridge sold. Washer dryer sold. Still selling: HP 1102W printer. BW laser. Works with Wifi/AirPrint. 5 years old. Works perfectly. Has near-new toner cartridge installed. 5000 pesos OBO. UPDATE: Sold. Stroller, Phil & Teds, Amazon link. Bought 6½ years...

    Obtaining Power of Attorney

Another option is to handle the POA at an Argentine consulate in the US, in which case AFAIK an apostille would not be required. I spoke to the Argentine Consulate in my destination city, regarding whether I could designate an apoderado to fill out the Form 08 to sell my car here. There were a...

Getting cash USD out of Argentina

AFAIK people on the street are offering this to the US for 3-4%. From the US it’s a simple matter to wire it to Europe or anywhere else.

    Bolivia

This thread is wild. So far we’ve read that: police not shooting protesters = coup; guy who skirted both the constitution AND popular vote just by running (never mind the alleged fraud) = coup victim; said victim in mortal danger; US criminal justice bad, Argentine jail good; OJ Simpson =...

    Getting pesos OUT?

You don’t need to go to Uruguay. This problem has long been solved, no need to reinvent the wheel. You find people here who will give you dollars in the US against dollars here. That can be friends with the opposite problem, or people who provide this service for a fee. If pesos are involved...

    Getting pesos OUT?

If you want to mix it all up, feel free. WU is happy to do that because they’re screwing you on both ends, may as well put it all in one pile. Me, I would not charge nearly that far above the blue rate. Today’s rate was about 66, 75 sounds outrageously high. If you want to do that and find...

    Getting pesos OUT?

Didn’t understand that at all. In fact, I think you are mixing 2 operations: transfer of money (USD here against USD abroad), and exchange (USD for pesos). Things go much smoother when these operations remain separate.

That’s exactly what the blue rate is about. The street rate not regulated by the government or BCRA.

    Getting pesos OUT?

There are many people, locals and expats alike, that deal with this dilemma. Most of it is not anything sinister. 20K USD in a suitcase in New York says “drugs” or at least “money laundering”. Here it means “regular people doing business”. Doing business here completely en blanco, indeed simply...

    Overstaying 90-day limit

I am, frankly, appalled. How DARE you make the insinuation that Argentines would be guilty of discrimination - or worse, racism? Argentines are the least racist people there is anywhere in the world. Believe me. EDIT (because people are idiots): the above was a JOKE.
