Rihornos, the dog is 4 years old, I am sure he would make an excellent pet but, as I said, he will probably require a lot of patience, training, and attention. If you are not put off by that, I will find out about the rest and let you know.
Considering that there has been a lot of discussion but a lack of actual data, I thought some of you might find these reports interesting.

Yes, as I said, I would be willing to buy him but I absolutely cannot take him in and I would not dream of selling him on to the next best person. It is a shame that a lot of people buy a dog mainly because they like the way it looks and have no clue about the needs of the particular breed...
BB: there is a court hearing that I would have to attend. I will most probably not be in the country for that, so it's useless.
Evergreen:
I feel exactly the same way. My neighbors treat their dog pretty much the same way but they do not even invest in a dog walker. It was a Christmas present...
I went to a friend's house the other day and his neighbors have a Beagle that they treat very bad. He lives in the garden and is chained up all day. He barks a lot and when it's too much for the owner she just ties a rope around his mouth and leaves him like that. They never take him for a walk...
I never traveled on that train and personally never would. Most trains are un desastre, but I guess it's you get what you pay for. Here's more info:

Stereotyping, gotta love it...
I have traveled A LOT and from my experience I'd say people do not care where you're from as long as you're a decent person. An *** is an *** no matter his nationality
Salsa de soja, they have it at Disco, I once bought a national brand - cannot recommend it!!! The garlic (ajo) is usually where they weigh fruit and veggies :)
Hi FDC, I am pretty sure the yellow pages won't be of much help to you. What you can do is check with the different chambers of commerce here, they are usually able to give you a list of companies that are based in Argentina. eg http://www.britargcham.co.uk/
Good luck!
Why should I or anyone else apply enthusiasm and effort? You coming here or not - no me cambia la vida. We are all able to leave a reply which means that we have not been taken hostage while driving around the city. My dear friend GoogleMaps will be happy to show you where there are mountains...
evergreen: obesity has been acknowledged as a disease by the congreso a while back. so basically any obra social should cover a cinturón gastrico for patients with a certain degree of obesity. i think they call it obesidad morbosa here and that would be a bmi of 40 or more. many prepagas offer...
@Conorworld: there are a lot of phones that support the Skype function. I'd suggest you check out the websites of Claro, Movistar etc to get an idea about the costs. Not exactly cheap in my opinion...
Sim cards ("chips") are easily available and cost between 5 and 15 pesos.
@bizco: that depends...
Best (or at least official) source I have found so far is http://www.senasa.gov.ar/contenido.php?to=n&in=739&io=5187
They have bilingual information and were also helpful and friendly on the phone.
Re taking pets back home:
Air France will charge me USD 150 (apparently a flat fee) to take my dog to Germany. Also I was informed that they can lend me a kennel free of charge. Sounds nearly to good to be true!
A very friendly manager at Avid Microchips has sent me a list of vets in my area that apply the microchip. In case any of you might need it as well here's the company's website http://www.microchipavid.com.ar/
Last time I left BA, 1 month ago, I had to pay a 300 peso fine (overstaying approx 5 months) I don't know how much the visa extension costs now but if you intend to stay longer than another 3 months I'd just pay the fine and not worry about going to migraciones.
