Life in Buenos Aires and first impressions advice

Just out of curiosity- What do you consider an “incredible job offer back home in Buenos Aires”? The reason I ask is that Argentina right now is plagued with massive inflation- I believe it’s the country with the third or fourth highest in the world right now, and unless negotiated correctly, a...

Max Purchase US$200 per Month for individuals..!

I don’t think they can restrict dollars being brought in. I think it’s an international standard of 10,000 before having to declare it.

Violent protests in Chile: Will this spread to Argentina?

The demonstrations in Barcelona are because that region of Spain (Catalonia) wants independence from Spain.

Are you illegal while waiting for residency?

By the way the concept of “illegal” immigration does not exist in Argentina as it does in other countries. You are “irregular” .

Are you illegal while waiting for residency?

Don’t quote me on this, but I believe if you show the appropriate documentation proving you have a “trámite” in progress you won’t be bothered. A friend of mine came with the intent of getting a visa rentista and overstayed by 6 months while in the process, but then later decided this was not...

Max Purchase US$200 per Month for individuals..!

The official rate is still at 59 but let’s see what it closes at.

    Western Union money transfer

Having Argentinean family myself, I do feel for the people living and earning in pesos but a lot of this has been as a consequence of the politicians that they themselves have voted for, who have undermined the peso so badly that has given ALL Argentines a total obsession with the dollar.

Peso what level do you see it this year?

So there’s now a pretty significant spread between the “official rate”, which it’s still giving me as 58,9 and the 80 BajoCero mentioned.

Peso what level do you see it this year?

56 seems low but I did see that XE which gives the “official” rate had it around there yesterday.

    Emergency dentist cost

While I haven’t had this type of dental work done in BA before, I have had lots of other dental work done in BA and I find it to be significantly cheaper (enough to even consider going there from abroad for most major work) than the US and Europe and of equivalent quality. I think the fact that...

Machismo and Gender Equality in Argentina

I’m a man (sorry?) but have lived on 3 continents and I must say that Argentina seems to be far more open minded when it comes to women than even the US. Many of the demographics similar to those of Trump voters in the States (blue collar, people living in rural areas, etc) voted for a woman...

Life Without Cold Water in BA

I agree with the person who said you need this remedied ASAP as BsAs in the summer will be torture without being able to have cold water. I also agree with getting together with all the B unit apartment people as surely they can’t be too content about this and taking action yourselves and then...

Life Without Cold Water in BA

it’s been my experience that the US Embassy doesn’t like to get involved directly with “local” issues and at most what they can do is recommend from a list of lawyers they keep on file that speak English.

Need feedback on San Telmo neighborhood

Honestly though, with BsAs being such an open and accessible city, I wouldn’t base my judgement solely on the area, while it’s true that because of the demographics of some areas you might be less likely to have something happen, take the area of the Four Seasons/Patio Bullrich for example, cusp...

Need feedback on San Telmo neighborhood

During the day it’s totally fine and I agree with the previous posts, if you take a cab after dark you should be okay as well. Actually though in many parts of San Telmo during the weekends there is a lot of night life since there are tons of restaurants and pubs, so on these nights you will see...

Do ppl ever just hookup in BA?

I find it just the opposite really. Most of my (30ish/40ish) male friends aren’t necessarily scoping out a serious relationship initially— hence all of the rent by the hour telos.... But then later, should there be “feeling” after the “touch and go” , they consider seeing the person for more...

    Are Argentines discriminatory?

I think it’s based mostly on ignorance and lack of education. Also it’s a mix of both classist AND racist. 2 African-American friends of mine came to visit and I took them out to the finest restaurants and hotels in BA and they received some looks that were quite uncomfortable. Also Argentina...
