    Incredibly High Import Fees

Ha - I have no idea how they figured the duty fee. I waited until the very last day to even pick it up. I knew what was in it but didn't know how much fun (read: frustration) would be involved.

    Incredibly High Import Fees

I had to pay 35 pesos for 4 boxes of Mac'N'Cheese that someone sent as a gift. The duty fee was completely arbitrary as there was no value declared on the package. go figure.

    Brining a Police Record?

It'll be helpful to let the forum know about your friend. I sent off for my records from Argentina, received them, then went to Europe and back and they were accepted without problem because they still covered the last time I had been in the States...but I think they did ask me about it.

    Brining a Police Record?

The only question I have (or had) about bringing FBI records from the states was that the date on the FBI record request had to be greater than your arrival date. I had my fingerprints taken here, sent them to the FBI, received my record request but then had to return back to the states for a...

    Brining a Police Record?

I think they require police records covering the past five years. If you've been in a single location for the past five years, you could probably get records from the State. Because I lived in 3 US cities in the last five years, I got my FBI records instead. Let me know if you need help...

    How to watch the NFL

Do you have a home outside of Argentina? If so, you can buy a Slingbox, but that would require someone to install it at your home. If you have good internet download here (and upload back at home), it's a good option.

    Turno for a new DNI....

Right - did you actually get through and secure a turno, though?

    Newcomer from the States!

If you're looking for a serious job or contacts to help, you might try searching your university's alumni network and find people that live here. That's how I found my job...

Getting a job in BA - is it worth it?

Agreed - if you're looking to save money here, it's unlikely. I work for an Argentine company, get paid in pesos and my rent, which is in dollars, is greater than my salary. That being said, I saved for a few years in the States and am investing in my future. Luckily I was able to find a job...

belgian girl needs advice about room rentals

I think this is kind of an iffy subject. I think it ultimately depends on how accepting/nice your landlord is. My lease is quoted in dollars but I pay the equivalent in pesos. If you think about it, it's somewhat ludicrous to quote a currency that isn't a) your national currency and b) isn't...

is it possible to pick up intl mail @ retiro w/o a slip from CorreoArgentina?

I'm not sure about that...the slip has a number on it that they'll eventually call out over the PA system, but I guess you could try to get whatever information you can from whoever confirmed that it is here and go with that info and your passport to the international post office to see if...

    DNI Turno

Right - I saw that on their site which is why I was baffled when the guy gave me a number to call instead of directing me where to go to get a turno (when I went in person yesterday). Although it could have been because I went at 10 and not from 6-9. Thanks nonetheless.

    DNI Turno

right - I've been calling for the last 3 or 4 hours, sometimes it goes through to some music, sometimes it just rings and rings, but either way, it just ends. I guess I'll try going by early one morning. Do you know if there is a particular place to go to get a turno in person? I went this...

Goodness - so you really can't get a turno through the telephone number (like they told me today...)?

    DNI Turno

Has anyone tried calling for a turno for a DNI? I went this morning and was given a number to call (4346-1880). I've been calling constantly for the past several hours and the three times the call has gone through, I either get music for a few seconds and then the sound of disconnected number...

Hello from Chicago - Tennis in English?

There is a tennis club on Niceto Vega I think in the 5400 or 5500 block. It's called Puente Tenis Club (or something close) and has 3 clay courts. They also have tennis lessons but I doubt they are in English...

does overstaying tourist visa affect chances work visa?

I'm a little confused but do you mean doing all of the legwork on your own? If so, I have. If you mean getting a work visa without being sponsored by a company, I don't think you can do that. A labor contract is a requirement to get a work visa which would necessitate a hiring company to be...
